Causes

Current causes you can support through the Cause Amp network

Each Cause on Cause Amp is defined by a piece of text. Think of it as a constitution that every member of the Cause has agreed to. It's the shared reference point that keeps everyone pulling in the same direction, and it's what every action taken in the name of the Cause has to line up with.

That matters because when you join a Cause, you'll start receiving action notifications β€” prompts to like a supportive comment, make a prewritten comment replying to disinformation, or share a relevant post. Those actions are drafted by volunteers and staff, and they should always reflect the text of the Cause.

If an action notification ever seems off β€” too partisan, off-topic, or not in the spirit of the Cause as written β€” hit the Report button next to it. Volunteers who repeatedly draft actions that don't line up with the Cause lose their ability to draft new ones. You can read more about how that review loop works on the Browser Extension page.

We'll be adding new Causes as the network expands. If you want to weigh in on what should be next, send us an email (info@causeamp.org) or bring it up on Discord (get your invite to the Discord server inside the browser extension).

Support Ukraine

The Ukrainian people are now suffering their fifth year of war as they fight to maintain their rights, their country, and their way of life from Vladimir Putin's war machine.

But even if you don't think much about the human stakes, defending Ukraine's sovereignty is essential to upholding the rules-based international order β€” a free, democratic country should never be forced to bend to one man's whim, and allowing a democratic nation to be dismantled by force would embolden aggressors worldwide, from the Baltics to the Indo-Pacific.

Many of the developers of Cause Amp live in Ukraine. We hear drones and bombs most days. This past winter was brutal β€” Russia bombed civilian power plants and infrastructure, and many buildings had no heat for months through -20Β°C weather (forcing a member of our dev team to move in with family for several months to avoid freezing to death).

Supporting Ukraine means speaking about the truth of what is happening here, refuting Russian disinformation about the causes of the war and attempts to cover up war crimes, as well as mobilizing support and donations for Ukrainian charities and the defense effort.

Fight Disinformation

Social media is full of false and inflammatory statements, fake news articles, and AI generated content. This Cause is all about identifying and debunking that disinformation so people who see it on social media know it's false.

Some of the people posting misinformation don't know what they are saying isn't true, but most of it is posted by bad actors and bot networks intentionally creating confusion, undermining democracy, stopping people from making good choices, and pushing society toward extremes.

Important Note: There are lots of false claims on social media that don't actively harm anyone. If someone is claiming that the wrong team won the World Cup, no one is harmed by hearing it, and that's not the kind of thing this Cause is about.

This Cause is about identifying and subverting false claims that actively create harm. Some examples include:

  • Someone claiming that vaccines cause autism (proven false and harmful because it leads to fewer parents vaccinating their kids and more children dying of preventable diseases)
  • A post stating that the 2020 US election was stolen (proven false and subverts trust in the democratic process)
  • A claim that the world will end by 2030 from climate change (not supported by any serious peer-reviewed paper, and makes people feel fatalistic and hopeless)

If you join this cause, hit the Share with Cause Amp button when you see disinformation on social media to let other members of the Cause know. In return, you'll receive notifications to help debunk disinformation (e.g., to make a prewritten comment in response to a false claim, or to like a comment debunking a false claim and push it to the top).

As with all causes on Cause Amp, please let us know if you're interested in volunteering to do more (like reviewing submissions and drafting comments for others) by emailing us at info@causeamp.org.
