CAUSE AMP PRIVACY POLICY
Last Updated: March 13, 2026
Our Privacy Philosophy
At Cause Amp, we believe that taking action for a cause shouldn't mean giving up your privacy. We only collect the information necessary to power the network and help you make an impact. We see and store only the data you actively share and the actions you take to support a cause.
We do not have access to, nor do we store, your social media passwords or login credentials. Furthermore, we do not broadly observe or track your general activity on social media platforms outside of the specific actions you choose to take through the extension.
What We Collect & Why
We strive to keep our data collection minimal and transparent:
- Optional Account Info: You can use Cause Amp without an account. If you choose to create an account, the only information required is your email address. If you provide your email, we may send you updates about new features, new causes, or volunteer opportunities, which you can change at any time in your account dashboard.
- Optional Social Media Username(s): In order to use all of Cause Amp’s features, including taking actions to support your causes, you have to share one or more social media usernames / handles and connect it to your Cause Amp account. You can, however, contribute to your causes by sharing cause-related content with the network without adding any social media usernames / handles.
- Shared Content: When you share a social media post or comment with the network, we store that specific content you shared.
- Action Data & Automated Verification: After you use the extension to take an action in support of a cause (e.g., liking or commenting), your action is recorded and shared with the Cause Amp network. To protect the integrity of the cause and prevent "bad actors" from undoing actions or changing comments to cause harm, your local browser will monitor for follow-up actions on that specific post (e.g., unliking a post you previously liked). If a follow-up action is detected, it is automatically shared with Cause Amp.
- Device Basics: We collect basic info like browser and OS type to ensure the extension works correctly on your machine. Telemetry data, like the time that you shared a piece of content, will also be recorded. If the extension crashes, you may be prompted to share information with our developers to help us fix the issue, but such sharing is always optional.
- Extension APIs: The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How Your Information Is Shared
Because Cause Amp is a community-powered tool, your shared actions and your social media handle are visible to those leading the cause you have joined. This can include volunteers and others who do not work for Cause Amp. Only the leaders of the cause you've joined can see your Cause Amp data within that specific cause. Your email address is never shared with volunteers or those outside Cause Amp.
- No Third-Party Marketing: We do not sell your data or share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
- Service Providers: We share certain data with the following third-party providers only as necessary to provide our services:
- GCP (Google Cloud Platform): For cloud hosting and infrastructure.
- Firebase: For authentication.
- Sendgrid: For delivering transactional and notification emails.
Your Control & Deletion Rights
You have the right to know, access, and manage your data.
- Account Deletion: If you delete your account, we will permanently scrub your email address from our systems.
- Network Contributions: To maintain the integrity of the cause, social media content you have already shared or actions you have taken will remain a part of the network’s history even if your account is deleted.
- Information stored only in your browser: Some additional data which is required for Cause Amp to function is stored locally in your browser and is not shared with our database. This includes your currently logged-in social media handle on active sites.
- Managing Cookies: You can disable cookies through your browser settings, though some features of the extension may not function perfectly without them.
- Data Retention: We retain your information for as long as necessary to support the causes you are active in, or until we cease operations.
Keeping Your Data Safe
We use industry-standard technical and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encryption at rest (GCP and Firebase), and by strictly enforcing these privacy policies internally.
